Frequently Changing Filters | Forest Park, Flossmoor, Evergreen Park

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

As Americans, we inherently have busy lives full of things to remember on a day to day basis. Maintaining the heating and cooling system may not be a task that needs to be completed every day, but for most, checking the furnace’s filter just once a month is still too much of a task to remember. In order to make sure things continue to work properly, many homeowners will invest in fancy filters that can last for multiple months, so that they don’t have to remember to change the filter every 30 days. However, some of these homeowners are finding that despite the manufacturer’s claims that the filter should last 3 months or longer, the filter still needs changing every 30 days. Before you blame the manufacturer, take a moment to consider that the problem might not be your filter; it might be your HVAC system and the air quality in your home!

Finding the Source of Air Quality Problems

It is recommended that once you replace your filter or upgrade to a new type of filter you check it every 30 days to make sure that it is able to handle to air quality in the home. For some, 30 days comes and the filter that is made to last 3-6 months is still in good conditioner. For others, the filter already needs to be changed. The problem lies within the home’s air quality. You may have animals or other factors that are contributing to the dirty air in the home or you may just have filthy ducts. As the furnace circulates air through them, debris is picked up and caught by the filter. When this debris is excessive, it can waste a filter in 30 days or less. (more…)

Remodeling Your Home? Have Your HVAC System Cleaned

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

Having work performed in the home can create quite a mess. From dirty floors and walls to construction dust on every surface, getting the home back to its original condition after the repairs or remodeling jobs have been completed can prove to be quite a task. Many construction companies will clean up after themselves, but nearly all of them forget about the mess they made of one very crucial system in the home: the HVAC system! All of that dust, debris, and odor will be swept up into the duct work to be transferred through the furnace and then re-circulated throughout the home. Depending on how extensive the work was, you may have a serious air quality and furnace efficiency problem leftover. You are going to need someone to clean up this system, and Four Seasons has got your back.

Cleaning Up After Construction

  • Duct Cleaning: Many homeowners have never had the ducts cleaned in the home, so odds are they are not only full of construction debris but also years and years of particle build up. A professional duct cleaning from Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning is the only way to restore this part of the system back to peak performance and bring clean air back into your home. Without this service, you could be left breathing in construction dust for years to come.
  • Heating and Cooling Cleaning: With all of that debris circulating through the ducts, it will have to pass through the furnace and air conditioner as well. If you aren’t using advanced filtration system to capture these particles before they dirty up the furnace, then you probably have a mess inside your system that could be causing a massive decrease in energy efficiency. Burners and heat exchangers that are coated in a layer or dust and debris cannot transfer heat as effectively and energy efficiency suffers. You will end up paying more to use the furnace every month because the system will need to burn more fuel to keep up. (more…)

You have seen the ads in the newspaper, on television, and on the highway. Duct cleaning seems to be a pretty popular but you have probably also heard much of the controversy that surrounds this service as well. Is it worth having done? Is it all just a scam? How much should having your ducts cleaned really cost? Four Seasons will show you what real duct cleaning service is suppose to look like, and all you have to do is call!

Dishonest Duct Cleaning Services

The scam artists out there like to pry on this service because the homeowner has little ability to see if the job was actually done properly. For the most part your ducts are hidden from view and without camera evidence of the cleaning being performed any scam artists can walk in, pretend to clean, and walk out with your money. Many of these companies will also throw on extra charges at the last second that you weren’t expecting, and when it comes to money, no one wants to be surprised by what they owe. These types of tactics are what shy people away from this valuable service, but Four Seasons offers the customer a much different experience. (more…)

Ductwork Types and Your Dryer Vent | Blue Island, Bedford Park

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

At Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning we are concerned about all of the duct work in your home not just the ducts used for your HVAC system. For most, there isn’t much more duct work in the home besides that in the HVAC system, but neglecting the duct work in the dryer vent could be one of the biggest mistakes you ever make. Most homeowners that operate gas powered dryers don’t even realize that they have a dryer vent until they have to replace the dryer. It is usually at that time that they also find the vent dangerously packed with lint and that the wrong ducting material was used to create the dryer vent in the first place. Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning can get your dryer vent in proper and safe working condition.

The Wrong Duct Work for Your Dryer Vent

How are you going to know if your dryer vent is using the wrong duct work? Well, when the dryer is out of the way, check to see if you have the accordion-like duct work leading into the wall. It will either be white and made of plastic or look like foil. This is a dangerous type of duct work to use for this application for 2 reasons. First, this duct work creates plenty of grooves for lint to get caught up in. When highly flammable lint becomes trapped in the dryer vent and becomes a fire hazard. The second reason this type of duct work shouldn’t be used is because it is flammable itself. You don’t even need the lint to get stuck in the vent to cause a fire and put your family and your home in danger. (more…)

Why You Should Seal Your Ducts | Rolling Meadows, Richton Park, Itasca

Friday, October 7th, 2011

You could have the fanciest, most high tech, most expensive, and most well cared for furnace in your home, but if you do not have properly functioning duct work, it will all go to waste. If the furnace cannot deliver the heat that it creates to the rooms in your home, you loose both money and comfort. Leaks allow the air being pushed through the ducts to be released into the attic, between floors, and anywhere else the ducts may be ran through the home. This leads to rooms that aren’t warmed or cooled effectively and loads of wasted energy because the furnace has to run for much longer periods of time in order to meet the set temperature. What can you do about this problem? You can call Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning

Preventing Costly HVAC Noises | Hanover Park, Oswego, Berwyn

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

It starts as a slight rattle that you try to ignore. Within weeks that rattle now sounds like there is a train plowing through your basement every time the HVAC system turns on. What is causing this noise? An imbalanced blower motor is the culprit. No matter which system you are using, air conditioner or furnace, the blower motor is always in operation. This fan circulates air through the duct work in your home, and the slightest disturbance in its function could result in a massive part failure. At Four Seasons, we have recently noticed that many of the homeowners encountering this problem have a similar root cause to the issue. The true problem lies within the duct work, but the good news is, this doesn’t have to be a problem in your home too.

Debris in the Blower

When we send out a technician to run a call like this, they often find that the motor became unbalanced because a bit of debris got into the blower compartment. Candy wrappers, old receipts, and even plastic army men have been known to find their way into the blower motor. These tiny objects have the power to destroy this rather expensive part of your system, and they traveled through your duct work to do so. (more…)

Do Your Ducts Need Cleaning or Not? | Hometown, Oak Lawn

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

There has been a lot of hype and confusion surrounding the topic of air duct cleaning. Is it a legitimate service? What can it really do for my home? Do I even need to have a duct cleaning performed? All of these questions can leave you wondering why you should even bother with this service, but Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning is here to convince you that this service may be worth your time and effort, and the best part is, we will do the assessment for free!

You May Not Need Them Cleaned

There are some homes out there that simply do not need this service performed. Those that have advanced air filtration systems, no pets or allergies, and those that have had the duct cleaned recently are among those that do not need this service. The problem is many companies will sell a duct cleaning to anyone they can and they do little to give the customer an honest opinion of the real conditioner of their duct work. (more…)

Air Conditioners that Waste Energy! | Palos Heights, Orland Hills

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

Here at Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning, we perform tune-ups and repairs on air conditioners seven days a week from the time it starts to heat up in the spring to the last warm days of fall.  During these services, we see every types of issue that you could possibly imagine, but the most common problems we find are air conditioners that are not providing the energy efficiency level promised by their label. For example, an old 10 SEER unit that has this problem may only be delivering 5 or 6 SEER and is therefore contributing an increase in energy cost for this homeowner. Your system could be doing this to you, and odds are you wouldn’t even know that it was happening. Luckily, there is something you can do about it!

Your Number 1 Enemy: Dirt!

The number one energy thief is dirt. The air that we breathe is full of it inside and outside the home. If you have a hard time believing this fact, look at your furnace filter after about thirty days of using your furnace or air conditioner or take a look at your coffee table after a couple weeks without dusting. That dust that the filter catches or that settles on your furniture is your worst enemy. Dirty filters, dirty condensing coils, and dirty duct work will cut into the energy efficiency capabilities of your air conditioner. (more…)

Indoor Air Pollutants: Formaldehyde | Des Plaines, Glenview, Oak Park

Monday, June 20th, 2011

When it comes to indoor air pollution, many immediately think of carbon monoxide, pollen, or mold as the main contributors. You may install CO detectors, clean up after floods, and take allergy medications to prevent any of these pollutants from taking effect in your home, but are you doing anything to protect your family from formaldehyde? Here at Four Seasons, we find that many people know little to nothing about the potential health effects of this harmful compound, and many more don’t even realize that they could have formaldehyde already in their home! There is one easy way to remove this pollutant, and as always, Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning has the solution!

Formaldehyde Can Affect Anyone!

Certain pollutants are more common in older homes when compared to newer constructions, but when it comes to formaldehyde, any home at any age can have a high presence of this chemical. Years ago this compound was used in insulation materials, and these days, formaldehyde is still used in many construction materials and carpets. The effects that this pollutant can have on your family are truly shocking, and those that are extra sensitive, like the elderly, the very young, and those with respiratory conditions, can become very sick by breathing in this microscopic poison. Some of the health problems that have been found include: (more…)
