Ever Wonder if Your Furnace is Too Big? | Aurora, Hickory Hills

Monday, December 12th, 2011

Hundreds of furnaces across the Chicagoland area are way too big for the homes that they are installed in. How did this happen? Well, there are two possibilities: either the furnace was installed back when the motto, “Bigger is better” rung true, or the installer decided to take you for a ride by selling you a larger and therefore more expensive unit. No matter your situation, having a furnace in the home that is bigger than needed has probably already caused you problems. The only way to repair this problem is to either expand the size of your home or get a new unit, but how are you going to know if your furnace is over sized in the first place? Leave it to Four Seasons.

What Size Should Your Furnace Be?

Next time you need something heating or cooling related performed in you home, call Four Seasons. Our servicemen are heating and cooling experts and they will be able to do the appropriate assessments on your home to determine the proper size furnace you should have installed. Or, if you are looking to install a new furnace anyways, schedule your free estimate with your Four Seasons Home Comfort Specialist. Where other contractors may base their estimate off the size of furnace you already have in the home, Four Seasons is willing to take the time to find out what size the furnace should be. (more…)

Gas Companies Offer Chicago Rebates for Energy Efficiency

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

Last week we talked about how the federal government is offering tax rebates for those that upgrade their HVAC system, but The Middle Class Tax Relief Act of 2010 will expire December 31, 2011. Under the Middle Class Tax Relief Act of 2010, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service is implementing consumer tax credits for homeowners who make these qualified improvements.   This is your last chance to take advantage of up to $500 in direct federal tax credit for the purchase of high efficiency heating and cooling products from Lennox.  However, there is a bit more time to take advantage of the tax credits offered by Nicor, Peoples Gas, and North Shore Gas, but why should you miss out on any of these rebates when you could call Four Seasons today?

North Shore Gas, Nicor, and People Gas

Nicor, Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas are all participating in rebate programs that could dave you big bucks on a new furnace, boiler, or hot water tank this winter.  Nicor is offering $200 to $250 for high efficiency furnaces, $350 to $450 for high efficiency boilers and $200 for high efficiency water tanks.  People Gas is offering $350 to $400 on high efficiency furnaces, $500 to $600 on high efficiency boilers, and $100 on boiler reset controls for exiting units.  North Shore Gas is offering $200 to $250 off high efficiency furnaces, $350 to $450 on high efficiency boilers and $100 on boiler reset controls for existing units. As an added bonus, Lennox is offering its Fall 2011 Consumer Promotion with rebates all the way to $1850 on qualifying equipment. (more…)

It’s Time to Change Batteries! | Oak Lawn, Blue Island, Alsip

Monday, November 21st, 2011

Very few things are more annoying than when batteries die on a vital appliance in the home. Next thing you know you are digging through drawers or stealing batteries from your children’s toys. Why not be proactive this year instead? There are three appliances in the home that most defiantly need to have their batteries changed twice a year: once before the summer season and again before the winter season. If you haven’t changed the batteries in these appliances in a while, now is the time to get back on top of this home maintenance task!

Beeping, Breakdowns, and Batteries

  • Smoke Detectors: These crucial appliances are there to give your family advanced warning in the event of a fire in the home. When the batteries fail in these systems, the unit will beep incessantly until the battery is replaced. You may find yourself tempted to simply disconnect the unit until you get a new battery, but we urge you not to get in this habit! You may forget to replace the unit promptly and you will leave your home and your family vulnerable in the event of a fire.
  • Thermostat: The thermostat controls the comfort level in the home, and the majority of these units run on batteries these days. If your thermostat is running on batteries that haven’t been replaced in ages, they may fail without your notice. You will think that there is a problem with the furnace and end up spending your hard earned money to have technician out to tell you that you need to change the batteries. The thermostat may even appear to be working normally, but the batteries simply don’t have enough juice to communicate properly with the furnace. (more…)

Hard Water, Boilers, and Water Heaters | Lake Zurich, Round Lake

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

Not only does Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning install and service water heaters and boilers, we are also in the business of protecting them from damage. We do this in a couple of ways, but if you have hard water in your home, your system is definitely at risk. Four Seasons now offers their customer’s full installation of water softening systems that can save your home from the damage hard water can do. For those of us that don’t have hard water, we still need to protect the system, and Four Seasons has a way to make that possible too!

Damage Cause by Hard Water

As hard water flows through your pipes, water heater, and boiler, it leaves behind deposits. Calcium and magnesium are usually the biggest culprits and over time, they can become caked inside these parts of your home. Pipes will loose their ability to transfer water effectively, and the water heater and boiler will loose energy efficiency. This happens as the buildup covers the burners. The boiler and hot water tank must then use more gas to heat up the water that will be transferred through the home. With time, these deposits will damage the systems beyond repair and will require replacement. A water softener will remove these deposits from your water before it ever comes in contact with your plumbing, your water heater, or your boiler. (more…)

Does Your Furnace Need a Flu Shot? | Lake Villa, Lansing, Cicero

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

Once again the flu season is upon us and many of us are attempting to ward off this illness by getting a flu shot. We take this proactive step so that we don’t find ourselves laid up in bed for several days sneezing, coughing, and wheezing. Getting sick costs us money and comfort. We loose money when we have to miss work or pay for babysitters when our children have to stay home from school, and we loose comfort because no matter how many bowls of chicken noodle soup you may consume, you are still restless, agitated, and sick. With this in mind, it makes perfect sense that we spend a little money every year to get a flu shot as a prevention tactic.

Proactive Furnace Cleaning Services

This type of thinking can be applied to a variety of situations, but we would like you do ask yourself this winter, “Does your furnace need a flu shot?” Sounds funny but furnaces can get the flu too! They can wheeze and cough and fail to keep you warm. This usually happens at a very inconvenient time and it defiantly costs you money and comfort as you wait for a repair to be completed. What can you do to prevent this from happening? You can take a proactive step and call Four Seasons. We make house calls! (more…)

An All Inclusive HVAC Company | Elmwood Park, Wadsworth, Mundelein

Friday, October 28th, 2011

What are the most important aspects you look for in your heating and cooling company? For most, all they want is a company that offers a good product, has fast service, and probably most importantly has affordable pricing. You would think that these things are pretty basic, but most companies may offer only a couple of these features. At Four Seasons we strive to be everything you are looking for and then some. Where other companies may leave you out in the cold, we are constantly changing and improving the way we service our customers so that we are able to meet their needs.

Staggering Prices

Any company that lacks in one of these three areas is truly lacking a lot. A company that offers a good product and fast service but that offers their services at staggering prices  is leaving out a very important component that many homeowners need right now. Yes they need reliable heating services, but if you can’t afford them, how are you ever going to benefit from their fast service or impressive products? You simply can’t. (more…)

Upgrade Your Insulation Instead! | Mount Greenwood, Fox River Grove

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

Looking for an affordable energy efficiency upgrade this fall? Many homes suffer with old heating systems that gobble up energy like there is no tomorrow, but replacing these old units is not always in the budget, especially with the holiday season on the horizon. However, many of us can’t afford to keep spending so much on our energy bills every month, and we need a more affordable solution. Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning recognized this need, and that is why we offer affordable insulation services to homeowners across the Chicagoland area. The energy efficiency boost you will get from having this service performed could be just what your budget needs this winter.

From R-Value Minimum to Maximum

An attic with inadequate insulation is usually the problem. Chicago and the surrounding areas fall within an area of the country that requires insulation with an R-value between 38 and 60. Many of us are probably way below this level, and you could check for yourself. Simply take a meter stick or other measuring devise and travel up to your attic. Measure the depth of the insulation, and if it is below 14 inches, you insulation’s R-value is lower than the required minimum. This could be what causes the icicles to form on your roof and the temperature differences within the home during the chilly winters here in Chicago. If you find that your insulation level is lower than 14 inches, have Four Seasons perform a free assessment and give you a free estimate on blown-in insulation. (more…)

Are You Sick of Talking to Answering Machines? | Tinley Park, Skokie

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

Most heating and air conditioning companies in the Chicagoland area close up shop between 5 and 8pm. Unfortunately, this leaves many of their customers out in the cold when the heat stops working during non-business hours, and instead of having a real person to talk to, the customer has to vent their problems to an answering machine. The icy cold winter temperatures in the Chicagoland area do not close up shop, and furnaces and boilers don’t punch out on a time clock. These systems often breakdown at the coldest and most inconvenient times, and many homeowners simply accept the fact that they are going to have to go without heat until their HVAC company is open once again.

We Understand Your Needs

At Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning, we truly understand the needs of Chicagoans. We know that there are many of you out there that simply cannot allow your home to go without heat for more than a couple hours due to a variety of reasons. Maybe you have someone elderly or an infant living in the home. Maybe you have a medical condition that can be adversely affected by low temperatures. Maybe you are having friends and family over for a get together. Maybe you fear that your pipes may freeze, or maybe you just don’t want to start off the next morning in a freezing cold house. Whatever your reason, Four Seasons is always there for you with 24 hour live customer service representatives that can schedule an emergency service call for your home no matter what time or day it may be. How to Know What Service Your Furnace Requires | Berwyn, Hinsdale

Monday, October 24th, 2011

Now that the cold has returned, the call center at Four Seasons has been flooded with customers scrambling to get their maintenance check performed as soon as possible. Unfortunately, they are not the only people wanting a technician out to their home. The emergency furnace repair calls have also begun, and as more and more people turn on their system, there will be more and more of a wait to have your cleaning performed. Having no heat in your home in Chicago is an emergency especially for the elderly and those with children. These calls must be our priority, and unfortunately, those that need their cleaning done may have to wait a few days.

Clean and Check or Emergency Service?

If you are looking to have a cleaning performed, your furnace should be working. This service is simply meant to keep the unit in its functional condition all winter long and to help the unit run more efficiently during that time as well. Although cleaning off certain parts may solve some problems you may have with the unit, a cleaning is not meant to be a repair. If the furnace doesn’t turn on when you start it up for the season, you fall under the title of “emergency service.” Don’t sit around in the cold waiting for a cleaning with a broken furnace! What you really need is a repair technician at your home today! We feel terrible when we arrive at a customer’s home for a cleaning only to find that they have gone a week without heat waiting for the maintenance check that won’t necessarily solve their problem.
