When the air conditioner breaks down, the first thought that comes to the minds of most Americans is, “How much is this going to cost me?” The uncertainty stems from a total lack of knowledge about how air conditioners work and what could possibly be wrong. Many are forced to blindly call a company and request service while crossing their fingers and hoping that the bill is something that they can afford. Hourly Charges and Confusion
Many other HVAC companies work on an hourly basis. Some even conjure up mathematical equations that they customer has to solve in order to figure out how much they will owe. Summer has begun and the high temperatures that are typical of Chicagoland are already here! We are still given relief from the heat by a day or two of mild temperatures here and there, but they are only a minor break between heat waves. As this week progresses, the heat is expected to crawl back towards the 90’s once again, and it you are worried at all about your comfort, now is the time to get your home ready! The air conditioner is at the forefront of your protection from the sweltering heat, but there are a couple other tips to keep in mind as you prepare your home this week.
Take Steps to Protect Your Comfort
- Set the Thermostat: Despite some cooler days prior to a heat wave, it is best to leave your thermostat set at the temperature you would set it during the heat wave. If you were to turn off the air conditioner completely or set the temperature very high, the unit would have a significantly harder time getting to the desired temperature once the heat actually arrives. Does Your Home Have Negative Pressure?
The air pressure in your home should be neither positive nor negative. A well ventilated home will be at equilibrium with the outdoors. Homes these days are made air tight. Because of this fact, exhaust fans and other appliances that vent outdoors can remove air from inside the home. When the pressure outside is higher than inside, air from the outdoors will attempt to penetrate your home in any way that it can. Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning has recently won the top prize in The Chicagoland Natural Gas Savings Program’s Contractor Challenge! The program challenged HVAC companies across the Chicagoland area to promote the rebates offered by the program, and the company with the most approved rebate applications would win! Well, Four Seasons is always in the business of saving our customers money, so we made it our goal to spread the word as much as we possibly could.
Education is Key
Every member of our sales team became an expert in the program and were able to answer any question a customer may have had about the incentives and requirements included in the program. We even helped with the paperwork when needed. Our goal was to educate our customers about different ways that they can receive discounts for purchasing furnaces, air conditioners, and attic insulation. We just had our first warm day of spring, and in some parts of Chicagoland the temperature reached 82 degrees! Where you tempted to use your air conditioner? Maybe it’s just me, but the first warm days of spring make me what to open up all of the windows and air out the staleness of winter. Enjoy the mild weather while it lasts, and don’t waste your money starting up the air conditioner too early. You will have plenty of hot Chicago days when your air conditioner will be a life saver. Let’s face it, during the heat of the summer the weather demands that we use our air conditioners, and though they can make our homes very comfortable, nothing beats the feeling of a cool breeze off of the lake.
