Our congress may be debating day in and day out the value of going green as far as our government is concerned, but for the average American, going green should be common sense. Our argument isn’t about global warming or diminishing fossil fuels, but it is about saving you money! Any homeowner that is looking to save money should care about going green, and should be taking certain steps to make their home more energy efficient. Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning is in the business of saving you and your family money and that is why we are also in the business of going green. From energy efficient furnaces to attic insulation services, we have a plethora of ways that you can go green and start saving today.
The Best Big and Little Changes You Can Make
Not all green home improvements are created equal. Some will save you more money than others, and depending on your home’s situation, you may be in greater need of one improvement over another. You should also consider your budget when you are looking to go green. Some home improvements are more expensive than others, but you don’t have to break the bank in order to go green. In our humble opinion, replacing the furnace is the best large investment and adding attic insulation is the best small investment you can make into the energy efficiency of your home. (more…)

Picture yourself in this situation. The furnace has finally called it quits after 20 years of somewhat reliable service. You call Four Seasons to schedule your free in-home estimate on a new system, and the salesman arrives to do an assessment of your home heating needs. He takes a step outside and notices that your air conditioner is the same age as your furnace. He comes back inside and suggests that you now replace the air conditioner along with the furnace. Before jumping to the conclusion that this salesman is full of it or that he is just trying to maximize his profits, you should take a moment to consider the many benefits that come from replacing the entire system at once rather than replacing it in pieces. These benefits include:
- System Efficiency: Whenever you replace just one component in a system, the older units limit the efficiency of the new system. There have been drastic improvements in the energy efficiency of heating and cooling units, and replacing both systems at the same time will allow you to maximize the efficiency of both units.
- Savings: When you maximize the energy efficiency of your units, you maximize your savings as well! Also, there is a good chance that you will get that air conditioner at a discounted price during the off season. (more…)

Last winter in Chicago, we got lucky. As the east coast was plummeted by several feet of snow, we enjoyed a rather mild winter. Yes, we still had the typical ice cold winds and snowfall, but if you have lived in Chicago or the surrounding suburbs for a while you have seen much worse. Unfortunately, this winter has been predicted to be a bad one. AccuWeather.com has predicted that Chicago will experience “above-normal” snowfall. When you consider the fact that Chicago averages 38 inches of snowfall a year, you can only imagine what “above-normal” is going to be like. So, how are you going to prepare your home and your family?
Winter Preparedness
Your home needs to be the safest place for your family to seek shelter during the upcoming winter. Part of making your home safe is ensuring that you have functional heating equipment in the home. Whether you have a furnace or a boiler now is a good time to have Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning out for an inspection. Have us look over the system and perform a yearly maintenance tune-up before you start relying on the unit on a day to day basis. (more…)

The service technicians at Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning are able to handle a variety of issues. From boilers and furnaces to hot water tanks and air conditioners, our technicians are proficiently trained to handle nearly any situation your HVAC systems can throw at them. However, the expertise of our technicians is not needed in every situation. Hundreds of times a year, we have customers who call us out for problems that really aren’t problems at all. Flipping a switch and setting a thermostat are “repairs” that nearly any homeowner can handle on their own. We know that the people of Chicago work hard for their money, and that they don’t want to waste it on unnecessary service calls. So, the next time the furnace breaks down, there are a few point to check before racing to the phone to call Four Seasons. (more…)
