High Efficiency Furnace Care | Arlington Heights, Oakbrook Terrace

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

When you upgrade the furnace in your home to a high efficiency unit, you will notice many things that are different about this system when compared to the old unit you had been operating in the home. The ventilation system is completely different, the unit operates very quietly, and hopefully the comfort level has increased as well. These new systems need to be cared for differently than that old unit that you once had. They have different needs you must keep an eye on, but luckily Four Seasons can help you make the transition easy.

Condensation and Your Drain Line

Besides taking special care to have your filters changed on a regular basis, there are a couple other parts of the system you should keep an eye on. The drain line, for example, is a vital component of your new furnace. This until creates a lot of water during its efficient combustion process and that water must be drained. The drain line will safely remove this water from the unit, but only if the line is clear. With a lack of maintenance this line can become easily clogged with mineral deposits and mold. The clog will cause the system to back up and shut itself down until the line is cleared. However, if you have the system regularly maintained by your Four Seasons serviceman, this will not be a problem. (more…)

Gas Companies Offer Chicago Rebates for Energy Efficiency

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

Last week we talked about how the federal government is offering tax rebates for those that upgrade their HVAC system, but The Middle Class Tax Relief Act of 2010 will expire December 31, 2011. Under the Middle Class Tax Relief Act of 2010, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service is implementing consumer tax credits for homeowners who make these qualified improvements.   This is your last chance to take advantage of up to $500 in direct federal tax credit for the purchase of high efficiency heating and cooling products from Lennox.  However, there is a bit more time to take advantage of the tax credits offered by Nicor, Peoples Gas, and North Shore Gas, but why should you miss out on any of these rebates when you could call Four Seasons today?

North Shore Gas, Nicor, and People Gas

Nicor, Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas are all participating in rebate programs that could dave you big bucks on a new furnace, boiler, or hot water tank this winter.  Nicor is offering $200 to $250 for high efficiency furnaces, $350 to $450 for high efficiency boilers and $200 for high efficiency water tanks.  People Gas is offering $350 to $400 on high efficiency furnaces, $500 to $600 on high efficiency boilers, and $100 on boiler reset controls for exiting units.  North Shore Gas is offering $200 to $250 off high efficiency furnaces, $350 to $450 on high efficiency boilers and $100 on boiler reset controls for existing units. As an added bonus, Lennox is offering its Fall 2011 Consumer Promotion with rebates all the way to $1850 on qualifying equipment. (more…)

Seasons Change and So Should Your Filter! | Crown Point, Crystal Lake

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

As we slowly begin to accept that summer is over, we start the transition from warm weather to cold. We pack away our tank tops and shorts. We replace weather stripping and switch the thermostat over to “heat,” but what we really should be doing is changing our filter. Every year, hundreds of homeowners recycle the same filter from month to month without ever giving it a second’s thought. They allow it to become clogged and riddled with debris and dust from around the home. This filter is holding you back from having proper indoor air quality and a properly functioning furnace. Four Seasons is here to set things straight with a reminder to change your filter with the change of the seasons.

High Efficiency Filters

Many homeowners have graduated from using the cheap fiberglass filters and upgraded to a higher efficiency filter. These filters do not have to be changed as frequently as fiberglass filters do, and though this may be convenient, it also makes it very easy to forget about the furnace filter all together. However, you must not let your furnace fall victim to the consequences of an old filter. (more…)

Investing in a New Air Conditioner| La Grange, Burbank, Richton Park

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

These days, everyone is looking to make their money stretch as far as possible. When investing in home improvement projects, it is no different. Every penny counts, and this summer, you can make your dollar stretch farther when you replace your air conditioner with Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning. Tax credits and rebate will help you afford a new high efficiency and high tech air conditioner for the same price as a much more moderately efficient unit.

Tax Credits and Rebates!

Right now you can take advantage of up to $2,300 in tax credits and rebates when you have Four Seasons install a new air conditioning unit in your home. The government and Lennox both offer monetary incentives for those that wish to purchase high efficiency air conditioning systems, and these units will save you money in two ways. The money you will get back from the government and from Lennox will keep you within your budget, and leave you with a more energy efficient system. The increased energy efficiency will help you continue to save money every month on your energy bills! (more…)

Chimney Problems? Get a New Furnace| Chicago Ridge, Calumet City

Friday, February 25th, 2011

As our homes continue to age, many of us will begin to notice that certain parts of the home don’t work the way that they used to. For many people, a problem with the old furnace leads to the discovery of a problem with the chimney. Chimney repairs can be very costly, and many homeowners often have no idea why the furnace and the chimney have anything to do with one another in the first place. Don’t worry, you are not being scammed. If you have an old furnace, it most likely relies upon the chimney to vent out the noxious gases created by combustion in the system. If the chimney is improperly sized or falling apart, you may be better off upgrading your furnace rather than upgrading your chimney.

A New Way to Vent

This advice may sound a little backwards, but once you understand how new high efficiency furnaces operate, you will see why it is better to place your money in a new unit rather than in chimney repairs. New high efficiency furnaces do not vent out the chimney. These systems vent horizontally rather than vertically, and use a plastic piping system that vents directly from the furnace through the side of the home. These units are exponentially more efficient than the old unit you currently have, and as a result, they are also a much wiser investment. (more…)

Top 8 Reasons to Replace that Old Furnace | Maywood and Frankfort

Monday, November 15th, 2010
  1. Cracked Heat Exchanger
  2. If you have been told by a serviceman that the heat exchanger on your furnace is cracked or severely rusted, you should replace the entire furnace. A cracked heat exchanger can lead to a deadly carbon monoxide leak. Also, when the heat exchanger is in this condition there is a good chance the rest of the unit isn’t in that great of shape either. Replacing the entire unit will save more money in the long run.

  3. Age of Unit
  4. Forced air furnaces usually last between 15 and 25 years depending on how well they were cared for. If you furnace is in that age range, replacement is recommended. Get ahead of the game and replace the furnace before it breaks down in the middle of our bitter cold Chicago winters.

  5. High Energy Bills
  6. If your energy bills seem to be outrageously high or if they keep increasing every year, odds are the furnace is to blame. Old furnaces are inefficient to begin with, but with time and wear and tear, they waste more and more energy. A new high efficiency furnace will drastically reduce your heating bills. (more…)

Energy Saving tips – Air Conditioning Season

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Below are a few energy saving tips for the Air Conditioning Season, which will save money, keep you cooler and save money. If you have central air conditioning or a window air conditioning unit, you can cut your electric bills significantly, especially in very warm climates, by following these energy-saving cooling tips this summer.

  • When buying a window air conditioning unit, more is not necessarily better. Base the size of the air conditioning unit on the size of the room, the other factors that affect the temperature in the room, such as how many windows it has and whether it faces south, north, etc. An air conditioning unit that is too big for the room will work harder and cost you more.
