Below are a few energy saving tips for the Air Conditioning Season, which will save money, keep you cooler and save money. If you have central air conditioning or a window air conditioning unit, you can cut your electric bills significantly, especially in very warm climates, by following these energy-saving cooling tips this summer.

  • When buying a window air conditioning unit, more is not necessarily better. Base the size of the air conditioning unit on the size of the room, the other factors that affect the temperature in the room, such as how many windows it has and whether it faces south, north, etc. An air conditioning unit that is too big for the room will work harder and cost you more. Why Timing Is Everything

A great deal of what of what people consider good luck comes down to timing; Some people say timing is everything. When it comes to saving money on a new air conditioner, furnace or boiler this year much of that will come down to timing. If you were fortunate enough to get the Illinois Appliance Rebate in January 2010 then you would have received up to $500 on a central air conditioner, up to $1,200 on a new boiler and $350 on a new furnace.

Of course the eligible products had to be energy efficient products that were Energy Star rated. The money you would have saved then would be in addition to the federal tax credit of up to 30% of the purchase price up to $1,500. That federal tax credit is valid as long as you purchase a high efficiency air conditioner, furnace or boiler before December 31, 2010. Most of the funds for the rebates and tax credits are coming from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. While originally intended to boost sales of “white goods” (appliances and durable goods) the biggest benefit overall has been to consumers. (more…)

Record Number Receive Energy Tax Credits

APRIL 8, 2010 – We are 1 week away from the April 15th, deadline to file your federal and state income tax returns. What we will see this year and next is a record number of individuals receiving a tax credit when they purchase a new high efficiency Central Air Conditioner or Furnace. If you are fortunate enough to have a baby born in 2010, you will get a Child Tax Credit when you file next year’s returns. It works the same way when you purchase and install a new high efficiency furnace or air conditioner. The program also covers other products such as boilers, and blown in attic insulation.
