Wifi Enabled Programmable Thermostats | Oakwood Hills, Palatine

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning has been installing programmable thermostats in homes across Chicagoland for many years now and the benefits of these thermostats have saved homeowners hundreds of dollars over the years. Now, there is an even easier way to get the most out of a programmable thermostat. Wifi enabled thermostats allow the homeowner added flexibility when it comes to setting the day to day program on the unit. The traditional programmable thermostat required manual setting changes and one forgotten adjustment could add up to extra cost that could have been avoided.

Added Benefits of a Wifi Enabled Programmable Thermostat

If you have a wifi network within the home, you can sync this thermostat with that network and access its settings from anywhere. Smart phones, tablets, and computers are all able to communicate with this device, so you could adjust the temperature from nearly anywhere. Instead of having to stick with one schedule every week, you can switch it up. Life is always changing from day to day, and these thermostats offer a new level of flexibility that simply could not be achieved with the old versions. For more information about these thermostats and to learn how you start saving more today, call Four Seasons!

Is it Time to Replace Your Boiler? | Oak Forest, Grant Park

Monday, January 9th, 2012

Boilers have a very long lifetime especially when they are cared for properly. At Four Seasons, we have seen old boilers last 20, 30 and even 40 years before breaking down to the point that they need to be replaced.  So, how old is your boiler?  Is your boiler still the original unit that was there when you moved into your home?  If so, you can save money and energy by replacing that old system with a new high efficiency boiler from Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning.

Overpaying Every Month

You run into two problems when you allow an old outdated boiler to run in your home. The first problem is the cost. The older the boiler the odds are the less energy efficient it will be. Some older boilers waste as much as 50% of the natural gas they consume during the combustion process. That adds up to a hefty cost every month on your utility bills and for most of us, overpaying every month by 50% is simply not an option! (more…)

Setting Your Thermostat: Going on Vacation | Hoffman Estates

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

The holiday season is a popular time of year for many people to travel. We pack up cars and take planes all over the country to visit family and friends and we leave our homes behind. Every year, without fail, there are hundreds of homeowners in the Chicagoland area that will turn off the thermostat to save some money while they are away, and as a result, they experience a real disaster in the home when they finally get back. We know you want to save some money while you are away, but there is a safer way. Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning is issuing this warning so that you can protect your home this season, and our handymen can help you prepare the home as well.

Frozen and Burst Pipes

Turning off the thermostat when you leave the home can be a big mistake. Sure, you save some money on the energy bills, but you put all of the plumbing fixtures in the home at risk. The winter may have so far been pretty mild, but all you need is one icy cold winter night and suddenly you have frozen pipes. Once that frozen pipe begins to thaw, the water rushing into the pipe may cause it to burst and cause serious water damage to that particular area of the home. The worst part is that if you are out of town, there is no one there to turn off the water supply, so the mess you come home to could be a true home disaster that will cost much more to fix that the little bit of money you were trying to save by turning off the furnace in the first place. Prevent Hot Water Tank Corrosion | Vernon Hills, Midlothian

Monday, December 26th, 2011

The biggest threat to the condition of the hot water tank is corrosion. The steel within your hot water tank is susceptible to damage done by the water that the tank is heating, but thanks to one very valuable part, your hot water tank is able to avoid disaster. The anode is a magnesium or aluminum rod that has been inserted into the top of your hot water tank and its number one job is to corrode. However, once this anode is gone, so is the protection your tank has against corrosion. Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning offers hot water heating services that can secure safety for your hot water tank for years to come.

Anode Erosion Protection

The magnesium or aluminum anode in your water tank has been attracting erosion since your unit was first installed. By doing so, it protects the steel within the tank from corroding because aluminum and magnesium are more corrosive than steel. The steel is spared until the anode has eroded. Once this happens, the water will begin to corrode the steel in the tank. This problem usually manifests itself as a leak in the bottom of the tank that simply cannot be fixed. Once the tank is at this point, the corrosion is so extensive that it is beyond repair. (more…)

Setting Energy Efficiency Goals for 2012 | Naperville, Aurora

Friday, December 23rd, 2011

As the year winds down, we begin to assess the year past and the year to come. What goals have we met and which ones have we still to complete? Make 2012 the year where these goals become a reality, and take the necessary steps towards making them happen. If these goals concern the energy efficiency of the home, getting them done becomes even more important. Failure to do so would mean wasted money and wasted resources. If you can’t afford to pay for another year of waste on your energy bills, now is the time to make a goal and get on the path to completion. Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning has several ways that you can improve the energy efficiency in your home and now is the time to start planning with us.

Planning Your Energy Efficiency Improvements

The most popular energy efficiency resolution is to replace the home’s old inefficient HVAC system with a new high tech and high efficiency system from Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning. However, investing in a heating and cooling system is not an easy feat for many homeowners these days. But there are options. You could either find other ways to save money for the investment, or you could take advantage of the financing options offered by Four Seasons. One of the more affordable energy efficiency boosting services that are offered by Four Seasons is our insulation services. Investing a small amount of your money into increasing the amount of insulation in your attic could be just what your budget needs to make saving for that new furnace and air conditioner easier than ever before. Turn Down that Water Heater! | Lockport, Crown Point, Crete

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

Nothing is more satisfying on an icy cold winter day than taking a nice hot shower or bath. Unfortunately, there are countless people that attempt to enjoy this simple pleasure and find themselves with a scald burn. Many of us will leave the tub or shower unattended while it warms up, but set the dial too far to the left and you could cause some serious damage to your skin. This can be even more so damaging  to the skin of small children if they are placed into a bath with too hot water or if they are new to taking showers. It is easy enough to prevent this from happening in your home and all it takes is a simple adjustment of your hot water tank’s thermostat.

Set the Tank Temperature Back!

Go down to your hot water tank and check what temperature you currently have it set at. If it is set higher than 120-130 degrees, here is your potential problem. Roll back the thermostat to 120 degrees and see if you notice a difference. Odd are your showers will be just as comfortable as they have always been, but you will not longer stand the risk of burning yourself or your family members. (more…)

Blocked Register Blunders | Bridgeview, Burbank, Worth

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

Homeowners across Chicagoland are looking for quick and easy ways to save money on their heating bills this winter. Many have invested money in new systems, improved insulation, and other energy efficient home improvements, but others want to save money without having to spend money. We honestly can’t blame them, but it is extremely important to know what you are doing before you make a change that could damage your furnace or your home. One such change involves closing off registers or vents in rooms that are not used very frequently.

Restricting Furnace Air Flow

When you close off registers to certain rooms in the home you can run into a few problems. The main problem is caused when you close off too many registers in the home, and this can happen inadvertently as well. If you close more than 30% of the registers, you could start chocking the furnace. Your furnace needs a certain amount of airflow to run properly, and when you close off registers, you deny the furnace some airflow. A bed, dresser, or other piece of furniture placed too close to a register or over one could also lead to airflow problems in your furnace. This could lead to premature part failure and overheating of the system. In the end you would pay more on your energy bills because the furnace would have to work harder to heat the remaining rooms in the home. (more…)
