Last week we talked about how the federal government is offering tax rebates for those that upgrade their HVAC system, but The Middle Class Tax Relief Act of 2010 will expire December 31, 2011. Under the Middle Class Tax Relief Act of 2010, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service is implementing consumer tax credits for homeowners who make these qualified improvements. This is your last chance to take advantage of up to $500 in direct federal tax credit for the purchase of high efficiency heating and cooling products from Lennox. However, there is a bit more time to take advantage of the tax credits offered by Nicor, Peoples Gas, and North Shore Gas, but why should you miss out on any of these rebates when you could call Four Seasons today?
North Shore Gas, Nicor, and People Gas
Nicor, Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas are all participating in rebate programs that could dave you big bucks on a new furnace, boiler, or hot water tank this winter. Nicor is offering $200 to $250 for high efficiency furnaces, $350 to $450 for high efficiency boilers and $200 for high efficiency water tanks. People Gas is offering $350 to $400 on high efficiency furnaces, $500 to $600 on high efficiency boilers, and $100 on boiler reset controls for exiting units. North Shore Gas is offering $200 to $250 off high efficiency furnaces, $350 to $450 on high efficiency boilers and $100 on boiler reset controls for existing units. As an added bonus, Lennox is offering its Fall 2011 Consumer Promotion with rebates all the way to $1850 on qualifying equipment. (more…)

Thousands of homeowners missed out on the tax credits that were handed out last year to those that made certain energy efficient improvements to their homes. The return was significantly greater in 2010, but the government did us all a favor and extended the credits for another year but at a reduced amount. However, the credits being offered are still quite significant. As we approach the end of this year, these credits are once again going to run out, and Four Seasons wants you to have every opportunity to take advantage of them before it is too late!
Tax Credit Eligible Products from Four Seasons:
- Furnaces and Air Conditioners: Furnaces from Four Seasons that have an AFUE rating of 95% or better are eligible for a $150 tax credit. 16 SEER air conditioners are also eligible for a tax credit of $300. This credit can make up for the extra cost that goes into purchasing a more energy efficient system. Sure other, less efficient, unit may be cheaper in the short run, but these units have long term returns and benefits in addition to these tax credits.
- Insulation Services: According to Energy Star, adding insulation is one of the most cost-effective home improvements that you can do! That is why when you use Four Seasons blown-in attic insulation services you can get a return of 10% of the cost up to $500! (more…)

If you have walked into an appliance store in the past 18 years, you have probably noticed the little blue Energy Star labels on many appliances, but what is Energy Star? The name sounds like it means something good and you probably have heard about the tax breaks on Energy Star rated appliances. But, do you really know what Energy Star is? If not, Four Seasons will clear up any and tell you how you can take advantage of the many Energy Start rated products that we offer.
What is Energy Star?
Back in 1992, the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy joined to create Energy Star in order to make it easier for homeowners to find energy efficient appliances. Their goal was to both to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to save consumers loads of money yearly on their energy bills. Appliances wishing to carry this label, go through stringent testing in order to confirm energy efficiency. (more…)

When it comes to heating the water for our homes, many people still use old, seemingly indestructible, hot water tanks. The only real problem with these tanks is that they drain energy! The typical hot water tank lasts 7-15 years, and if your unit is within that range, you should act now! Don’t miss out on the tax credits, and don’t wait till that old unit forces you to endure a cold shower. If your hot water tank is getting up there in years, now may be the time to invest in a new tank or tank-less system from Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning.
Which Water Heater Works for You?
Most homes use the more traditional hot water tank systems that heat up the water to a certain temperature and then store it until someone turns on a sink, shower, or other water dependent appliance. If you like this style of unit, Four Seasons will find you the tank to meet your hot water needs, and still save you money on your utility bills. (more…)

- Cracked Heat Exchanger
If you have been told by a serviceman that the heat exchanger on your furnace is cracked or severely rusted, you should replace the entire furnace. A cracked heat exchanger can lead to a deadly carbon monoxide leak. Also, when the heat exchanger is in this condition there is a good chance the rest of the unit isn’t in that great of shape either. Replacing the entire unit will save more money in the long run.
- Age of Unit
Forced air furnaces usually last between 15 and 25 years depending on how well they were cared for. If you furnace is in that age range, replacement is recommended. Get ahead of the game and replace the furnace before it breaks down in the middle of our bitter cold Chicago winters.
- High Energy Bills
If your energy bills seem to be outrageously high or if they keep increasing every year, odds are the furnace is to blame. Old furnaces are inefficient to begin with, but with time and wear and tear, they waste more and more energy. A new high efficiency furnace will drastically reduce your heating bills. (more…)
