Hard Water, Boilers, and Water Heaters | Lake Zurich, Round Lake

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

Not only does Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning install and service water heaters and boilers, we are also in the business of protecting them from damage. We do this in a couple of ways, but if you have hard water in your home, your system is definitely at risk. Four Seasons now offers their customer’s full installation of water softening systems that can save your home from the damage hard water can do. For those of us that don’t have hard water, we still need to protect the system, and Four Seasons has a way to make that possible too!

Damage Cause by Hard Water

As hard water flows through your pipes, water heater, and boiler, it leaves behind deposits. Calcium and magnesium are usually the biggest culprits and over time, they can become caked inside these parts of your home. Pipes will loose their ability to transfer water effectively, and the water heater and boiler will loose energy efficiency. This happens as the buildup covers the burners. The boiler and hot water tank must then use more gas to heat up the water that will be transferred through the home. With time, these deposits will damage the systems beyond repair and will require replacement. A water softener will remove these deposits from your water before it ever comes in contact with your plumbing, your water heater, or your boiler. (more…)

The Clock is Ticking on Tax Credits for 2011! | Mc Henry, Elgin, Dundee

Monday, November 14th, 2011

Thousands of homeowners missed out on the tax credits that were handed out last year to those that made certain energy efficient improvements to their homes. The return was significantly greater in 2010, but the government did us all a favor and extended the credits for another year but at a reduced amount. However, the credits being offered are still quite significant. As we approach the end of this year, these credits are once again going to run out, and Four Seasons wants you to have every opportunity to take advantage of them before it is too late!

Tax Credit Eligible Products from Four Seasons:

  • Furnaces and Air Conditioners: Furnaces from Four Seasons that have an AFUE rating of 95% or better are eligible for a $150 tax credit. 16 SEER air conditioners are also eligible for a tax credit of $300. This credit can make up for the extra cost that goes into purchasing a more energy efficient system. Sure other, less efficient, unit may be cheaper in the short run, but these units have long term returns and benefits in addition to these tax credits.
  • Insulation Services: According to Energy Star, adding insulation is one of the most cost-effective home improvements that you can do! That is why when you use Four Seasons blown-in attic insulation services you can get a return of 10% of the cost up to $500! (more…)

Water Heater Energy Saving Solutions

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Should you keep your old water heater or buy a new model to save energy?

Most people are unaware that hot water heaters are a major source of energy waste in old homes. Most homes (especially older homes) are usually equipped with outdated water heaters that use far more energy than a newer, more efficient one. But if you’re hesitating about investing in a new water heater, there are still some things that you can do to reduce energy waste and save money.

1. Turn your temperature on your hot water heater down!

There are two problems associated with having your hot water heater turned up so high that it almost burns you (besides almost burning you). One problem is immediate – the extra amount of money you are spending on your utility bill every single month that you could save just by turning down your water heater just a couple of degrees. The other problem is not immediate but will cost you money down the road – the higher the temperature you choose for your hot water, the faster the heating elements in your hot water heater will burn out which will force you to replace it.
